Data Enhancement
After running the database health check a number of data enhancements may be required. The following is a list of the most common processes that are required to cleanse a database.
Reformatting & Restucturing
This process standardises the data elements of a database into the correct fields and makes sure that all abbreviations are constant and all key data is correctly positioned.
Case Conversion
This process improves the presentation of the data. It converts all data held in UPPER or lower case to Normal Case.
Gender Slugging
This ensures that all contact names are given the correct Salutation Mr/Mrs/Ms etc...
Address Enhancement Services

Cleanses mis-spelling of Irish towns and counties

Inserts missing towns and counties.

Normalising of address to a common format ie all villages to be put into the village field, all towns into the town field and all counties into the county field.

Street cleaning to one common format ie Main St to Main Street, High Pk to High Park, Ind Est to Industrial Estate..
Postcoding
This applies the correct postcode to each individual record.
Phone & Fax number Enhancement

Under this process, all phone and fax numbers are standardised to one common format

All new STD and Areas codes are incorporated
Sic Codes
This process applys the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code and its business description to a file e.g. SIC 1992 55110 = Hotels
De-duplication
All duplicated records will be tagged and can be deleted from the file.
Data Conversion
Coverting a database from one format to another eg Delimited to Excel/Access
MPS/TPS & Internal suppression Files
All databases are run against these files, thus reducing the number of complaints from blanket mailing.
Reference and Key Codes
These codes can be added to a database, allowing for precise traceability on all mailing campaigns.
Merge/Purge/Deduplication
Merging two or more files together and tagging/removing any duplication that may be found.
Data Expansion
When all data has been properly enchanced, it can be cross-referenced against other sources of data allowing you to enchance your records with information you do not already hold e.g SIC codes, employee numbers, business descriptions and contact names. Analysis of the resultant updated database will show more clearly, shared characteristics in your data.
Mail sort & Postaim
On completion of the data enhancement process mailsort (GB Databases) and postaim
(Republic of Ireland) codes can be appended on to the files. With these codes on the database, you can avail of up to 35% discount on your postage costs.
